Best places to visit in Mussoorie

Located 35 kilometers from Dehradun, Mussoorie is a picturesque hill station in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The hill station is located in the foothills of the Himalayan Gharwal Range and is also known by its nickname “The Queen of the Hills”. The place is also known as the gateway to the “Gangotri” and “Yamunotri” shrines. The best time to visit the place is between mid-March and mid-November, as rains during monsoons and cold during winters make it quite inaccessible. 1. Mall Road

Located in the heart of Mussoorie, the mall road is a colonial relic of benches and lamp posts filled with modern shops, arcades and ice rinks.

2. Company Garden

You can find people enjoying their time sitting or walking or taking pictures on the eclectic garden lawn. There is also a man-made boating pond with man-made waterfalls.

Also known as the Municipal Garden, it is maintained by the Garden Welfare Association of Mussoorie and was established by Dr. H. Fackner at the turn of this millennium. If you have kids with you they will also have a gala time in the park with all the thrilling rides and plenty of room to run around. You can even satisfy the nature lover in you at this enchanting place and take some with you: buy small potted plants from the nursery or souvenirs from one of the garden shops.

3. Kempty Falls

Located on the way between the Dehradun-Mussoorie highways in the Ram Gaon area of ​​Tehri Garhwal, Kempty Falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions and picnic spots in Mussoorie. Surrounded by high mountain cliffs, Kempty Falls sits at an elevation of approximately 4,500 feet above sea level. The pond formed at the foot of the falls is an ideal place for water fun and swimming.

The name Kempty Falls is taken from the terms “camp and tea”, implying the elaborate tea parties that once stood here in the evening, ultimately leading to a localized name Kempty. It was developed as a picnic destination by John Mekinan due to its captivating setting and scenic beauty. Offering stunning views of the stream falling from a great height, it splits into two main falls. Quite famous among tourists as a picnic spot, the perennial Kempty Falls are crowded most of the year.

4. Lal Tibba

Lal Tibba is a popular viewpoint, located at the top of Depot Hill in Landour, about 6 kilometers from Mussoorie. Being the highest point in the region, Lal Tibba is one of the most impressive viewpoints in the region. Rising to a height of 2,275 meters (7,164 feet), Lal Tibba offers breathtaking views of Nilkantha Peak (6,596 meters) at Badrinath, Kedarnath Peak (6,940 meters), up to the Three Range Banderpoonch peaks, the highest at 6,316 meters. It is also a popular sunrise and sunset point.

The Lal Tibba area has been occupied for a long time, serving as a summer getaway during the British Raj and as a recuperation station for the army, gaining popularity as a cantonment and hill station. It is now occupied by the Indian military services. In the form of a small terrace, Lal Tibba offers a fascinating view of the border with Tibet. The place is relaxing and has remnants of British architecture.

5. Gun Hill

Considered an extinct volcano, Gun Hill is the second highest point in Mussoorie, standing at an altitude of 2,024 meters. The scene from the top of this hill offers a panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges right next to the vast Doon Valley and a full view of the hill station of Mussoorie. Gun Hill, located 400 feet above Mall Road, is a popular attraction, especially with photographers and nature lovers.

The highlight of Gun Hill is the cable car which offers panoramic views of the Himalayan range. The hill received this name due to the presence of a cannon on these hills during the days before independence. The gun was fired during the day to allow people to adjust their watches during those days.

Tourists can easily climb the hill by boarding the cable car; You can ride a cable car for about 400m to Jhula Ghar. The ride offers an excellent bird’s eye view of the surrounding Himalayan ranges like Shrikanta, Pithwara and Bunderpunch and colorful wildflowers. It’s also a great opportunity to snap photos of the natural beauty around you. In fact, one also has the option of getting off the cable car somewhere halfway for a few minutes to just enjoy the view. Once on Gun Hill it is often possible to see Gangotri through a telescope on a clear day.

6. Dalai Hills

One of the most beautiful places in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, Dalai Hills is located above Lal Bahadur Academy and is quite close to Happy Valley. It is synonymous with absolute tranquility as well as breathtaking views of the imposing Himalayas and green valleys.

The Dalai Hills overlook the magnificent Garhwal mountain ranges and are known for the many Tibetan prayer flags and the statue of Lord Buddha. There is also a Buddhist temple here. The trees, plants and flowers make the area perfect for nature lovers, while the forest trails are ideal for hiking. Given the serenity and the views, this place is ideal for watching the sunset, having a family picnic, camping and also for photography. Food stalls around serve refreshments.
